Inspirational statement
It is very hard to figure what a final project would look like already but still, there is so much to explore so I guess what's important to me in this whole process will be to get crazy! It's so rare that I have the opportunity to explore and get crazy on what I want to experiment in the most selfish way. My final project will be all about that! Also, I would like it to include the most of the technics and processes that we'll explore during the program. Adding to that, I give myself the challenge to make a complete outfit from head to toes. So, three main criteria will be the center of the project :
- 1. A crazy project.
- 2. Including most of the technics explored in the program.
- 3. Make a whole outfit.
As part a crazy fantasy world of mine, this outfit will be situated between a Syfy costume, an architectural structure and a bondage piece of art. An outfit that brings technical and structural shapes, reminding great architectural structure and texture; a piece that shapes the way you stand, or not, modifies the natural way your body should move. A piece that constraints you like we can see in the bondage culture; All that plunged in a world a fantasy reminding some of the greatest science-fiction movies. A world where micro-organism and human merged together in the darkest way possible.
Well, this is a bit of what I have in mind right now and that became that first sketch. It will of course change and evolve during the whole program but that mindset will be the center of my creative process.
Moodboards
As an image worth definitely a thousand words, I thought to make some moodboards just so that mindset I'm speaking of is really clear in my mind and so I can explain it to others too. I'm not sure that speaking od it in the air would excite my director as much as me! I need to plundge others in my crazy world.
Witchy mood !
Well, at some point it seems almost sure to me that, even if it's not the main goal, that outfit will look kind of witchy. But assuming that, what should that mean !?! It screams details to me! Is the devil not all about details? Well, it's what it's said to Him I guess. It also means strong looking women. Who wants to mess with a witch ... not me! They're taking no shit from anybody. At last, it also tells me that the improbable is probable or that the impact of a spectacular outfit is also as scary/powerful as the power they hide behind it.
Structure and defined shapes
There are so many ways to explore structure and texture. Couture as done it so many time and did it very well as so other fields have done it too. But, what a better field than architecture to explore structure and texture. Looking around some great architectural pieces, I came to be very interested in lines that creates more than what they are. This idea seemed to be just perfect within the whole mood I'm setting right here.
Then, what about textile ?! Well, it does the same! How about thinking of two circles making crazy waves. I'm talking about a circled skirt like I showed in the photos.
Kind of easy to make, well not that easy but still! The point here is that circles become lines or vice and versa ! There something more than interesting in creating shapes from other shapes of even shapes that changes like they explore in kinetic art. As for my FabAcademy journey, kinetic art and structures will be central to that project. I promissed after FabAcademy that it'd become my new obsession, well here it comes !
Bondage and body restriction
To me, and to many other, bondage culture and esthetic is much more than pornographical or it is beyond fetishism.
First sketchs
It's far from being the last sketch and my ideas and inspiration will evolve during the program. I'll challenge myself to make another concept page at the end of the 12 weeks to see where I am in the ideation of my final project. I also think that my inspiration section is way too thin to believe that I can make something mindblowing. I need a little more research. Well, a lot more research because processes are, to me, also more important than the result if not more.
